Hey, im 16 years old and i just suddenly felt a lump in my mouth with my tongue, then i felt for it and found it, it seems a bit moveable and tender if i touch alot at the same time, it seems like it's under the "skin" gums or whatever i dont know, does it sound like cancer? im a huge hypochondriac frown it seems like its not at the mouth floor, but more up the wall under the teeth on the downside..

Any ideas? should i worry

Hi Margaret,

Welcome to the forum. Please understand that we are a group of patients/survivors/caregivers who have experience with oral cancer but have no medical training. For this reason, it is not possible for us to respond I a earning fixate yor questions — yu Won’t want as to anyway — as It would be irresponsible of us.

My suggestion is for you to go to your family doctor and share your concerns with him/her. Your doctor has your medical records and can either give you a diagnosis or refer to a specialist who can.

Best of luck!

Welcome to OCF! Any lump, bump, sore, etc that is in your mouth for 2 or 3 weeks and it has not healed on its own needs to be checked by a professional. By professional I mean an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist... one that specializes in treating oral cancer patients, not the type of ENT who mainly puts tubes in childrens ears. Since you are 16, I suggest letting your parents know you have something bothering you in your mouth. They can make an appointment with an ENT if its been there for more than 2 or 3 weeks.

If you are using anything that could irritate your mouth such as tobacco, alcohol, mouthwash that contains alcohol, etc stop using it immediately to give your mouth a chance to heal. Your mouth issue may be the result of biting it when you were sleeping or chewing food. Hopefully what you have going on is nothing serious.

Good luck!!
