I'll just ask regardless..I seem to coming out in a rash on my neck arms and face,it's really itchy.I've never suffered with any kind of rashs before.is it related anyhow?!I saw doc yesterday for it and gave some tablets but I thought it was due to the dye that they inject for scans but I'm starting to think it's related to my cancer somehow. Can't phone helplines as there all closed.. so stressed here ,my goodness :-(

Of course I’m not a doctor but If you had a contrast ct scan it might be an allergic reaction to the dye. That can cause a rash.

Also, I know when I was first diagnosed and before I started treatment, I thought everything that happened to me was related to the cancer. Like I had an enlarged lymph node in my armpit and panicked for 2 days before I could get in to see my doctor that it was because the cancer had spread. When I saw her she said it was just a reaction to an infection in my body and nothing to worry about. And she turned out to be right. I’m not telling you to ignore things. Of course you have to see a doctor. I’m just sharing my experience of linking everything to cancer when it’s not related. Try to keep calm until you’re sure what something is.

I had a mri scan last week and a CT scan Tuesday..I did read o line that it can be a side effect from the dye that's used. And then today I read that it can be cancer related but wasn't to sure on that info..Thank you for the reply..

if I can give you a piece of advice, it’s to keep a notebook or open a new note on your phone specifically for questions you want to ask your oncologist. When I got sick a friend of mine told me to do that and it was a lifesaver. You’ll think of a million questions all day every day, and then sometimes when you actually get into the doc’s office, you’re overwhelmed by information and can’t remember any of your questions. You also get so much information at various appointments, it’s hard to keep track of everything. I found that writing it down so I could refer to it later helped a lot.

JR’s suggestion of putting notes on your mobile is a really great one. I use a linked notebook and wrote down all the questions I wanted to ask.

The dye can cause an allergic reaction, you should let your doctor know at your next visit, at least let the MRI tech know before your next MRI.

Definitely keep a notebook.

Contrast can cause a reaction, and you're going to want to know that for future reference so you can avoid it if necessary. It is also possible to have stress hives (I get these at times), though I think those are more likely in folks who tend to already have funky immune systems. I haven't researched it. But I have certain spots that break out specifically when I get stressed (separate from shingles, which I have also had) and I can tell them from allergic reactions because of the location.

Im sorry I missed your post about not being able to call about your rash. Are you in the US? If so there is always a doctor on call 24/7/365. Ive called a few times in the middle of the night and the answering service has had the doctor paged and he calls me back, surprisingly its usually very fast like in 2-5 minutes. It must be serious if it is bothering you enough for you to take the time and effort post it here.

Any rash that you feel is swelling sounds like it could very well be an allergic reaction. Be careful!!!! If you feel your throat is tightening up or its affecting your breathing get to the ER or call an ambulance. An allergic reaction can be a serious medical condition that requires prompt medical attention. Do you live alone? If so call a friend or relative to stop over to give you a hand. I always err on the side of caution with things like this and get checked out. Better to apologize later than have a medical emergency.

I dont have a medical background but I seriously doubt an itchy rash would be related to cancer. It sounds to me like its a reaction to something new you have introduced to yoru body. It could be any number of things besides the dye. Maybe you ate something that didnt agree with you? Regardless of what the cause was, you should get it checked out ASAP. Benedryl can help with the rash and swelling. Ive taken childrens liquid allergy medicine many times for things like this, its always helped me. Next time you see your doc make certain you talk about this and ask if benedryl would work for you in your situation.

Please let us know how you make out. Good luck!!!
