Hello there, i was here a while back, almost 2 years. I had a buccal cavity biopsy on a slowly healing, recurring sore, left cheek. It turned out to be negative. For which i was so grateful. Well, now, for the last 9 months I have had a hard lump on my inside, lower lip with numbness, tingling, and swelling surrounding this hard lump. So...i have an appointment for a biopsy and ultra sound of my inner lower lip and chin on, November 30th. That was the first available appt here . I am on the waiting list for cancellations however, this is unnerving. I seem to keep having these whitish plaques, and now this hard lump.

I am going in for biopsy/ultrasound of my lower lip/chin area. I have a hard lump on the interior mucosa, just below my lower lip, causing numbness, tingling, and swelling of my lower lip and other areas surrounding the hard lump. This has been going on for about 9 months. I had an oral biopsy last year but it was negative...this is strange.

Hi, me, replying to me☺☺ I am so frustrated with my mucosal white patches for 2 years, now this hard lump. No pain. Numbness, tingling. Sigh. I know many people are dealing with diagnoses. I am dealing with questions...after 6 major surgeries since 2009, and several major physical issues, this is so unusual. Especially going on for 2 years, white patches and this hard lump.

Welcome to the forum. I guess the long wait for the biopsy is adding to your frustration. Is it possible for your family doctor to find another doctor who can do the biopsy sooner? Does he/she see it as an urgent case and needs immediate intervention? What did the doctor advise after your biopsy last year? You said you were dealing with questions but what exactly are your questions? If you could post them, maybe someone who has had a similar experience may respond.

Welcome back to OCF! Hopefully this time will also bring good news of being negative for cancer. The lump could be scar tissue or some other issue besides cancer. Waiting 6 weeks for a scheduled biopsy and ultrasound sounds like a long wait. Im sure you must be a nervous wreck about what your lump may be. Try your best to stay busy with projects, reading, hobbies or things that keep your mind focused, that will help pass the time until your appointment. You may also want to try getting an appointment with another qualified doctor. You never know, maybe you'll get lucky and get in much quicker someplace else.

Best wishes with everything. Please let us know how you make out.

Thank you Christine and gmcraft, I am just a little frustrated from this long weird issues with my mouth. At first , with the deep ache and burning, lip swelling and white patches, I suspected "burning mouth syndrome " due to inability to absorb vitamin b12 because of 2 major gastric surgeries. So I began a series of vitamins shots and so on. No luck... then the growth of this pea sized lump in my lower lip became noticeable to me this last month in addition to the patches and swelling and burning. I hope that this is somehow related to my gastric surgeries having caused disruption to my mucosa. I have struggled with thrush and loss of tooth enamel because of losing most of my stomach (90%) and my duodenum and part of my jejunum. So i deal with a lot of digestive/oral/pain issues a lot. I guess my questions are just not that answerable yet, just, hoping that this is some weird little scar. So thankful for this site, even though I am not an oral cancer patient, I have been so helped here.

Having been reconstructed internally 3 times in my abdominal and pelvic organs, and once externally, I know how to get through surgery,☺, reconstruction, learning to eat again after major gut/stomach reconstruction. How to keep nutrition/hydration/vitamins and minerals going in when your ability to get intake is severely compromised. Pain management, etc. This issue us a bit more frightening to me because the post surgical care, wound management, pain, nutrition/hydration issues seem so much more difficult. I know I'm borrowing trouble here. I'll stop the worry train and just express gratitude for the information, guidance and kindness I see among everyone here. Either way, there is always a path forward, this I know after working for 30 years in healthcare.

☺ just thinking about becoming a little more aggressive about seeing the Dr for my biopsy/ultrasound. My lower lip is a bit more swollen with continual numbness, tingling and very tender/sore with superficial red/white patches on my bumpy, swollen, bulgy problematic interior lower lip. My little hard, pea sized lump in the middle of this swollen, macerated flesh is still there too. I mean, this has been going on, really, for 9 months, so what's one more month.

But I'm very uncomfortable and eating is very difficult, almost impossible for most foods, and painful for all food and all liquid, even water. Brushing my teeth means zero toothpaste of any kind, it is excruciating. I actually have quite high pain tolerance. But, I'm losing weight now because I can not really eat. The only things I can really comfortably tolerate are premiere protein shakes. And they make my mouth hurt too. 🤤

Well, at least my mammogram came back lovely and normal☺. Called in to check for early openings for my ultrasound, next interventions in my mouth. I am confused as to why no one seems to think that this is serious. An un healing macerated lump with swelling in my lower lip/chin seems serious to me. Before I became a psychiatric technician and worked with seriously mentally ill incarcerated felons, I worked as an LVN in hospice and before that on a CCU . With many, many CA patients, of many kinds, as well as patients with other end stage diseases. As well as chronic illnesses. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, I am not saying I am a physician, I know enough to appreciate what I don't know, but I have a certain bit of instinct about things that "don't look right" especially when it's 2 years of "doesn't look right" and now I am losing weight. I just don't like it. My labs are fine, but metabolic issues may not yet be affected in any case. Sigh, I don't mean to complain, but I do not want to dump this on my husband as he is 17 years older than I and has type 1 diabetes and associated co-morbidities which I help him manage. I've always been the care giver, not the care reciever☺ not that I am saying that I may be now. I mean this could be auto immune, I do have a failed thyroid, it could be fungal, though it does not have that appearance, it could be scar tissue, could be...could be...
I should perhaps try and access another physician for quicker tests? But crappy insurance and small town. And... as I said, if it's been 2 years, I guess 3 more weeks.

Coming down from anxiety today, this could be related to my loss of most of my stomach and 1/3 of my small intestines...really, the change in the ph of my mouth since 2009 has had enormous effect on the health of my teeth. So, stop worrying self. Keep breathing, keep doing everything available to maintain nutrition and health and effective activities of daily living. I have never been very much of a worrier, but i realized that i am, this year, the same age as my father when he developed pancreatic cancer and I became his care giver, (my mom refused to care for him, long story) I left the university of oregon school of music and went on to the Clark college school of nursing program after that...maybe that's what's going on. With in those two years of taking care of my father as he went through Pan Can, three of my uncle's died as well, lung cancer, colon cancer and stroke. Late 50's, early 60's were not good times for my family!

11 days till appointment. My lower lip, interior, still macerated, swollen, numb. Still have hard central lump, about pea sized. On a lighter note, my husband and i are getting thanksgiving foodstuffs ready to prepare and deliver to our local Catholic Charities Thanksgiving town feast☺ we will cook, deliver and help serve on Thursday, so much fun. Our little town is very friendly and active in lots of support for young families and local services. We try to support local businesses and community help as much as we can. This gets us through life with joy🤗. Being retired has been a wonderful opportunity to increase my availability to give time to my community. Anyway, happy beginning of this holiday week to all here, and thank you, especially ChristineB for administrating this forum and site. With my difficulty in attempts to eat, I have been using many of the recipes shared here and I got the "magic mouthwash" recipe as well here on this site, which has helped me with my very uncomfortable mucosa. Again, thank you, and happy holiday week!!
