It is a very tiny bump, but I have always read that any bump lasting for more than two weeks must be checked out. So since the middle of February I have been seen by 3 different doctors. Two of them thought it was an ulcer or abscess and gave me antibiotics(did not work at all), and the last doctor I saw gave me an oral cancer screening with the Velscope and there were no abnormal findings with that test. It is a tiny bump and has just been sitting stagnant there for a month now, and I don't know what to do. one thing I will note is that when I stimulate the bump with my tongue it produces a bitter/nasty taste in my mouth. I should also mention that I am in my 20's and I am a smoker and a social drinker(trying to quit both at the moment).
Like I said it is very tiny and stagnant, it has not gone away but has not grown either. I am thinking maybe a biopsy might be in order if it does not go away in another week or two, idk. My velscope test came back negative so I have no idea what to think. Does anyone have any opinions on all of this? Any help or input would be appreciated, thanks.

Im thinking you saw a dentist because of being checked with a velscope. After having a sore in your mouth for 2 or 3 weeks or more then you are correct, it should be checked by a professional. You want to be seen by an ENT who treats oral cancer patients. They should be most familiar with not just cancer but other mouth abnormalities. Your sore could be any number of things besides cancer. Hopefully its something not serious.
As far as the smoking and drinking goes... QUIT! All those chemicals is not helping to heal your spot. There are too many known cancer causing additives in cigarettes. Heck, even the e-cigs (most owned by big tobacco companies) contain harmful ingredients. Alcohol will only irritate your mouth so avoid it.
Leave the sore alone! By touching it (even with your tongue) you could be irritating it and making it harder for the sore to heal.
Please let us know how you make out. Good luck!!!

However, speaking from personal experience, you do not want to ignore something that the little voice in your head is telling you just isn't right and needs to be checked. You also do not want to waste time seeking information/treatment from those not equipped to deal with an anomaly that could be cancerous.
When I first noticed something "off" in my mouth I brushed it off as no big deal (I am one of those people that avoid doctors like the plague) and just chalked it up to a slight irritation or something brought on by the enormous amount of stress going on in my life at the time. Long story short: when I finally contacted a doctor, I was bounced around from Dr to Dr. who threw everything but the kitchen sink at what was going on (meanwhile I lost more and more of my ability to even open my mouth) for close to four months before one Oral Surgeon finally literally pried open my mouth and took a biopsy--from that biopsy it was straight to the Cancer Center.
Contact your nearest cancer center, see someone that has the ability to rule out (or, sadly, rule in) worst case scenario, and do it as soon as you can!
I hope all goes well and you do not join this sh*ty club!
Best of luck, Lisa

ONE DAY AT A TIME! | | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 2 Member | OP Member Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 2 | Thanks for the replies. For a month the bump stayed stagnant, but now it is noticeably bigger, like a boil. I noticed this a day after I burned the roof of my mouth again on food. I think more tests are in order. I am almost certain this is oral cancer, I don't want to be certain about this, but why would it get bigger if it wasn't? Right? So I'll have to go visit a specialist and have it checked. It went from being like a tiny bump on my left palate(side) to getting as big as a boil. So now I'm surely certain it is bad, if all goes well I'll update soon. | | | | Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 41 Likes: 1 Contributing Member (25+ posts) | Contributing Member (25+ posts) Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 41 Likes: 1 | Hi there....had a sore throat for weeks and it just did not feel right. Any time you feel something is not right, don't delay. I have throat cancer diagnosed 3/2/17. I just started chemo and radiation. My ENT doctor applauded by sense of urgency when something did not feel right. Please get checked soon. | | |
