Hi my name is Linda I live in Toronto Canada. I had cancer of the tongue, total removal Jan 14 2016. My question is, April 2017 is when they will rebuild. I'm curious if anyone can tell me about how they were able to eat after reconstruction and if they still have a feeding tube . I have read about Kate Brown amazing woman . I miss eating lol
Linda

Linda,

I am also in Toronto. Where are you being treated? Is it Princess Margaret?

Regarding your questions about swallowing, the best person to help you with it is a speech and language pathologist (i know it sounds odd but they are the ones who have expertise in swallowing issues.). If you arewith PMH, you might have to go to Toronto General Hospital or Toronto Western Hospital to see the SLP. Talk to your medical team as soon as you can as it takes something like eight to ten weeks to get an appointment to see an SLP. At the same time, you will see a dietitian who will give you guidance regarding how you can maintain your calorie intake.

One more thing. If your time is flexible, as the medical team (who will make the appointment for you) to put you also on the cancellation list. That way, you may be able to get in sooner.
