For any guys that had to have the pectoral muscle moved to the neck to protect the carotid artery during brachy therapy:
Is it possible to have a pec implant to the affected side ? When I research pec implants, they always refer to placing it under the pec muscle. Mine is in my neck, so not an option. I was told that fat transfer is a possibility to smooth it out, but I am too skinny - dang it !

58 yr old male, SCC left side of tongue 2/13, partial glossectomy, flap, 30 IMRT, 6 Chemo. Recurrence 10/13, lymph node removal, Brachy therapy 100, pec flap.

Good question, as I have thought about it myself, if it was possible, since reconstruction is often available for breast cancer patients. You hear more about debulking flaps, but not this.

I had a pec flap in 8/2012, placed in my left neck also to protect my carotid artery for reirridation, which artery has since been removed. I have no further thought about it though, too many other things going on, and figured I'll leave well enough alone, plus I just had my right internal mammary artery and vein, often used in breast cancer reconstruction, attached to my fibula flap in my mandible. There is another on the left side.

There is blood supply from the chest to the flap, as you probably know, so that may be a factor for anything that may block the blood flow. My doctors do a palpable check, I do too, besides scans, to ensure no tumors traveled there via the neck where most my cancers were in, In and out of nodes, with perineural and lymphovascular invasion.

Not sure if any male breast cancer survivors would knowabout this or other solutions. There is one who writes for Cure Magazine, Khevin Barnes, if you want to look him up. I could ask my ENT, and plastic surge on who did my recent surgery on my next visit , but as they say, be careful what you ask for.

Good luck
