Saw the ENT yesterday at University of Mississippi due to some ongoing pain in my sinus and upper maxilla area. While there I told him I had been having a bit of a sore throat. He decided to run the scope down my nose and into my throats area. He advised me he observed some leukoplakia on my left vocal cord. He told me this was a precancerous condition and that he would check it again in 6 months. Also started me on a Prilosec. Does this sound like a correct approach? To say I am a little nervous is an understatement.

I think if you were ok with what the ENT told you and didnt mind waiting 6 months to get rechecked you wouldnt have posted here. I agree!!! Experienced physicians can give you an educated guess as to what a lesion probably is but without a biopsy they cant be 100% certain. If you dont feel comfortable with the ENT who examined you then go for a second opinion. A second opinion is always a good idea, it sure cant hurt in your situation.

Leukoplakia does NOT always turn into cancer. Ive seen many patients come thru here with leukoplakia that it has never turned into cancer. If its removed, it often returns to the same area. Heres a link with more info about leukoplakia and other mouth lesions.

Hopefully whatever you have is not cancer!!! Good luck!!!
