I'm of course still using my fluouride trays every night, now 7 years out of treatment. But I note that they've been developing dark spots that I can't seem to remove. My instinct is to think that these are biological in nature - perhaps bacteria colonies?

I had been using an abrasive cleaner on them but my dental hygienist suggested discontinuing this as it could damage the plastic, and in fact encourage the growth of bacteria.

I can remove most of the toothpaste residue with a firm brushing. But the spots, they elude me.

Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi - I was told to use a denture tablet/rinse for cleaning my trays and do so every other month or so, with simple rinsing in between. Perhaps that will help, but check with your Dentist first.

I have a few different dental appliances - fluoride trays, night guards, etc., and they are all made of different material. Some are flexible and others are rigid. I was told to use a denture tablet on one of them, but don't recall which one. I've also used my water pik to clean them. Check with your dentist to see what they recommend.

Thanks to you both for the good advice. I hadn't considered a denture cleaner, might be worth a try.

Susan - Thanks, you were right on the money with the denture cleaner. I recommend it to anyone with fluoride trays. A couple of overnights with one of those fizzy tabs and the trays were clean.

I'd guess that a once or twice a month application would be all they'll need from this point. The box should last me years!
