Hi, all! It's been seven years since I had my palatectomy and maxillectomy. I have been cancer-free since then. Recently, I have been dealing with sores on the tongue, which when biopsied showed dysplasia. My tongue is incredibly painful -- enough so that I don't want to eat -- so my doctor prescribed Magic Mouthwash. It seems to last only about 1 hour, but the directions say to use every 4 hours. Can I use it more often than directed???? Help!

Ive used Magic Mouthwash quite often while I was going thru rads. What I remember was I used it a few minutes before I tried to eat. Its a very temporary numbing swish and spit medication that is made up of not always the same ingredients. Mine was maylox, benedryl and lidocaine. Some formulas contain nystatin (medicine that works well on thrush or fungal infections). Ive heard of other combinations of formulas too.

I suggest to call your doctor and ask if its ok to use it as needed. Your doc would know which ingredients are ok to use more than every 4 hours. Maybe your doc could prescribe you some pain meds to help combat the pain you are having?

I hope you have some relief soon. Mouth pain is the worst! Good luck!!!

I am just looking around at mouth sores and treatments, as I have just started this journey in 2016. I see you started posting in 2009, and this mouth sore issue is from Aug 2016.

Is this just starting 7 years later? Or has this been going on for 7 years?

Thank you
