Thanks in advance, my brother in law is going through some decision making in Boston Mass Ear & Eye. He has had lymph node dissection, cancer in 3 of the nodules. Recommendation of rad and chemo as standard of care. He hasn't had any 2nd opinions. Does anyone have recommendations of specialists in the Boston area? From what I have read, rad and chemo is standard.........but my brother in law evidently hasn't been told or able to remember even what his staging is. I am in CA, and want to help - and you all seem so caring.

Thank you for any advice , or if anyone is undergoing treatment at Mass General that might be willing to share stories or recommendations to them as they walk this path.

Thank you.
Rita

Heres a list of Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCC's). These are the countries top treatment centers and proven to have the best results. I suggest if possible trying to go to one if not, find the best treatment facility you can. Just remember opinions vary greatly. What one patient finds terrific, another may not like at all.

CCCs by state

Best wishes!!!

PS... Ive heard of several here who have gone to Mass General.

Hi Rita,

Ask about tumor board being part of the process wherever he gets treated . That alone is very valuable as there are so many medical professionals reviewing his specific circumstances.

Mass General hospital and oral cancer unit is one of the top in the world. Sloan Kettering in NYC, in my opinion, is tops. You are lucky to be at Mass General. My diagnosis, surgery and treatment were in Arizona but I plan to relocate to Boston or NYC if I have a reoccurrence. I had two positive lymph nodes out of 31 that were removed. I needed radiation and chemo. The chemo was needed because of a questionable nerve that was removed not because of the lymph nodes. I hope for a good recovery.

there are two leading places that should be on your list. Dana Farber only does cancer and Mass. General is also tops. They are both in the "Partners" system.
DF has been listed as one of the top five cancer operations in the US. (Mayo, M.D. Anderson, Hopkins and Sloan Kettering are the others).
