Hi everyone,

I live in New Jersey and I have been researching treatment center options for my dad, who will need surgery ASAP to remove the mass. So far, we were thinking John Hopkin's (Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center), Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, or NYU Oral Cancer Center. Does anyone from the Northeast or elsewhere have any recommendations or knowledge about the best centers?

Thank you so much! Best wishes to you all!

You are in a great location where you have a choice of some top facilities. Here's the CCC list I posted on your thread last week. If its possible to select a comprehensive cancer center (CCC), that would be the best choice. At a CCC a team based approach is used so all the specialists work together to make the treatment plan. Its called a tumor board where the doctors get together and discuss each individual case. The patient is able to attend as well. The CCCs also have the brightest doctors so hopefully this is an option for your father. The places you mentioned are all great facilities. Many members have been treated there.

List of CCCs

Best wishes!

Hi Julie,

I live in PA, and was treated locally. After my initial surgery, I went for a 2nd and 3rd opinion at two different hospitals in the Philadelphia area.

In 2010, I had a recurrence. I went back to one of the hospitals in Philly, and also went to Johns Hopkins for a 2nd opinion. I was very impressed with Hopkins and with the doctor (ENT/surgeon) and decided to be treated at Hopkins - best decision I made!

From what I've read, Johns Hopkins and MD Anderson (Texas) are two of the best hospitals for head and neck cancer in the USA. Sloan is very good also.

Best wishes!

Susan

Welcome,

The facilities you named are all top notch. Ditto the MD Anderson mention and the link to other designated cancer centers. You are fortunate to have such wonderful options available to your Dad. Don

You have Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick NJ, MSKCC has a satellite office in Basking Ridge NJ, in addition too Manhattan, Beth Israel Mt Sinai in Union Square Manhattan, and Mt. Sinai on Madison Ave, and New York Presbyterian.

Here is U.S. News Report Best Hospital Listings in each speciality like cancer, and Ear, Nose and Throat, in addition to NCI, and NCCN designated cancer centers.
