Yesterday was one year that I thought I was going for French food at lunch after my dentist appt and instead ending up spending the afternoon having a biopsy on my tongue which turned out to be cancer. Wasn't one of my finer moments. However, I made it to the year mark without chemo or radiation being deemed necessary. I am very grateful that it worked out this well for me and wish it could be so for everyone.
I do still go for monthly check ups at the cancer center. Today, I have a bit of a sore throat from allergies and post nasal drip I believe, but nonetheless have been looking down my throat with a big flashlight thinking I "might" see something suspicious. I guess that will never go away. I have had a good year overall and am hoping for many more. I have always been a bit paranoid, but I guess the worry is really nothing new for me! Hope everyone has a nice holiday tomorrow if you celebrate Easter.
Denise

Congratulations and yes, I believe we all look over our shoulder for the beast most of the time. I don't let it consume me though. One day at a time, as positive as I can be, it may have taken some things away, but cancer will never define me! Never EVER give up! Good luck, Neicy!

Hi Neicy. Your diagnosis' timing and mine are about the same, and although our treatments took different paths we find ourselves in about the same place a year later. For me the worry doesn't go away either, in fact I've not read anyone here - talked to anyone in my treatment center - that said it wasn't a permanent worry. But it *is* something we learn to tolerate and adjust to. Life goes on, and there is so very much to be grateful for. Congrats on your 1-year status!

Thanks PJE. I am so lucky and I know it. Going to spend my year anniversary in the mountains in Colorado. I am gonna eat and sleep in a hotel. Denise

Why was my above post edited? It's not funny now. Denise

Hi Denise,
Congrats on the one year clear. Big milestone. Lots of recurrences are behind you but still not in the clear yet. Time goes by and life goes on. Enjoy each day and each breath. Live just gets better every day!

Thanks donfoo. I still have another year of monthly checks to go for. I am glad I am not obsessing and actually would like to just go for monthly check ups from now on! It keeps me from getting into checking myself too much. Denise
