Had the left floor of my mouth excised last week as well as a large swath under my tongue. Lesion is 6 mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. Clean margins. Awaiting further path info to determine degree of differentiation and lymphatic involvement, if any. I was very lucky first time round 5 years ago although I had three surgeries including two partial glossectomies I didn't have chemo or rads. The size of the lesion this time is just below the demarcation line for neck dissection but the location may make this tack the preferred option. Waiting...

Im so sorry to read about your recurrence. It is never easy going thru one but when its at the 5 year mark thats especially difficult.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery.

Hello Catherine

It's hard to wait. Hope the results are good and you don't need any more treatment. I had a recurrence after four years - very disappointing when you get your life back only for it to be disrupted again.

Did you have a flap or graft inserted?

Best wishes

1996, ovarian cancer surgery + cisplatin and taxol.
September, 2007, SCC of left lateral tongue. Excision.
October, 2009 recurrence in scar tissue, T1NOMO. Free flap surgery from left wrist - neck dissection. 63 year old New Zealander. No chemo, no RT.
February, 2014. New primary in left buccal mucosa. Marginal mandibulectomy, neck dissection, right arm free forearm flap. T1N0M0 but third occurrence and some areas of concern: RT started 8 April and finished 19 May.
