My FIL is under diagnosis and it looks like stage 1 oral cancer. He had a lump on lower lip which is under biopsy ( he used to smoke ) .
would like to know what will be the side effects if he undergo radiation therapy for cancer cells around lips ? ( Doc says surgery will not help ) .
Will radiation therapy around the the lips cause fatigue & weakness similar to therapy in other parts of the body ?
also can you guys please suggest what will be normal duration & frequency of the therapy ( i know its case specific , but please just throw a ballpark number) .

Welcome to OCF! Im very sorry you have the need to use our services.

Here is a link to the main OCF pages where there is page after page of info to help better understand how OC is treated, including side effects.

Treatment Info from main OCF pages

Not all patients respond in the same way to treatments, medications, procedures etc. Some patient sail right thru everything while others struggle from their first day. If doing rads, intake is a huge factor of how easily a patient will get thru it. The patients who focus mainly on their intake and every single day take in at least the minimum have it easier. The minimums are at least 2500 calories and 48-64 oz of water daily.

I would suggest getting a second opinion (at a Comprehensive Cancer Center if possible). While a doctor may suspect a tumor is cancerous, it takes a pathologist to read the biopsy to know for certain what it is. At A CCC they will use a team based approach where all the specialists work together on each 'case'. They are all on the same page when a treatment plan is made.

Best wishes with everything.

I second the advice Christine has given you. It does sound to me that you need an urgent appointment at a CCC re a 2nd opinion for your Dad.
I am very puzzled as to why surgical removal of this lump on his lip is not an option.
I wish you the best outcome for your FIL. He is lucky to have you.
