Hi all, well I found a small bump on my upper gums where I used to chew a couple months ago. Ent says its pseudoeptithiomatous hyperplasia. Dont worry about it and go home. Well being the verry worry type of person I am I have another appt tommorrow where he will biopsy the spot. From what I have found pseudoeptithiomatous hyperplasia is just another word for Hyperkeratosis if not someone please correct me. So am I just being paranoid, am I right to want an biopsy. Any questions I should be asking the doc tommorrow. Thanks much for any help

Any sore you have in your mouth that does not resolve itself within 2-3 weeks should be checked by a professional. If you are uncomfortable with the visual diagnosis, a biopsy will clear up any confusion.

PS.. A sore inside of the mouth could be many, many things besides cancer. Hopefully this is nothing serious!

Good luck!!!

My husband went yesterday to be fitted for upper and lower partials (being that he is missing all his chewing teeth and molars due to cancer treatments). My husband mentioned to the dr that he has pain in his upper gum area and that it is white. He thought more bone was coming thru. The dr called in the surgeon to take a peak. The surgeon said it could be hyperkeratosis. Than he looked more and saw more on the side of his tongue. He wants Steve to come back in two weeks to do biopsies. My husband agreed but I can tell he's concerned. He has been missing 13 teeth for two years now and I'm believing and hoping the tissues are just irritated. My husband Steve will have 2 years cancer free this Friday the 15th and I'm planning on celebrating. He has been thru so much but boy oh boy he is tuff and never defeated. I'm so proud of him. His strength doesn't allow me to crumble. I'm keeping my trap shut about these upcoming biopsies and believing it's nothing to be worried about. I hope (4reals) biopsies come out clean too and are nothing to worry about. A question: my hubby had lip cancer in situ with 2 surgeries and than 8 months later presented with stage 4 cancer of the soft palate, tonsil and nodes involved. Is it possible after all the radiation and chemo that cancer could present itself in another part of his mouth? I was under the impression that if there was going to be a recurance it would just be somewhere else in his body.

Husband diagnosed 2/13 lower lip scc in situ 2 surgeries never scanned. 8 months later diagnosed soft palate scc stage 4A, tonsil and nodes involved. Hpv positive. Told by ENT small t1 tumor brought in to surgery for tumor removal and neck disection. Aborded surgery. Stage 4!! Finished rads and chemo Jan 2014. Grade 4 ORN of the maxilla, 30 HBOT , sinus surgery , maxilla surgery, buccal flap 4/2015. Doing good. 9-2015 red patch on soft palate , waiting to see.
