Hey everyone I haven't been in here for awhile. I've been dealing with getting my PET & CT scan. Done which just happened on last Tues. I had my laryngoscopy on weds. Let me tell you I'm so sore. I guess my EBT did some biopsies as well... My tongue looks horrible the parts I can see & it looks like I have a few stitches in it as well. Now yesterday I go in the bathroom to look at my tongue & it looks like its split in half!! I'm scared & nervous!! I can barely talk, cannot eat solids & I feel so sick. I had to call off from work cause I've been so sick. I cannot understand the nausea part & why. Is this normal? My days at my job are numbered I'm trying to hold on til I go back on the 11th to hear my fate but I'm not sure I'll make it.. I cannot stand the way my mouth smells either & there's nothing I can do. I'm so devastated with this diagnosis what do I do? I can barely get out of the bed, this is not me.. I want my life back. I'm tired of not being able to eat good food, heck I wanna chew again.... Please tell me what is the silver lining in all this I'm feeling defeated & I look defeated.

I am sorry you are feeling so bad. I can tell you that I had some days when I was just feeling terrible and very discouraged. Especially right after my biopsy on my tongue and after my surgery. I hated stitches in my tongue! Just thinking about it gives most people the heebie jeebies. But many people here know how it feels! You are not alone and we will all pull for you! The stitches I had dissolved on their own, but it took about 3 weeks or so. My tongue did feel sore for awhile. But time passes and it starts to heal and feel better. I chew on only one side of my mouth now and certain foods I don't bother about (meat) because they are more trouble to chew than they are worth! But I am back to regular eating and enjoying food! Waiting is really the worst! I will be thinking of you! Treat yourself to something if you can. I do meditation and that helped me alot! Denise

So sorry to hear you feel like crap. It is not uncommon though. Call your doctor back and ask if there is anything they can offer to help. There are plenty of medications for nausea. You can try a mixture of salt and baking soda and warm water. That often offers some relief.

Im so sorry you are feeling so bad after your procedure. I hope that by now you have made some improvement and are doing a little better. If your tongue looks that bad, I would get someone to call your doc and make an appointment to get checked right away. Most doctors can squeeze a patient in for an office visit when their patient has just been thru a procedure. Make sure you relay everything you told us to the doctor. If you are unable to talk still, print out your post and take it with you along with a friend or relative to help be your voice. A dry erase board or the ipad ap called speak it will help you with your communication.

Hope you feel better very soon. Keep us posted.

I remember my first biopsy on my tongue and how sore it was. Nevertheless I would still see or call a doctor if you are continuing to feel miserable. It's too long to wait until your next appointment and it's likely an ordinary doctor (we call them GPs) could help you or the nurse at the clinic you were treated at could give you advice. I've got a point of discomfort beyond which I won't let things get. I remember calling the hospital after my last procedure and being referred to the Emergency Department where a young doctor who sort of specializes in ENT matters gave me valuable assistance and more importantly reassured me. In your case you are waiting for results and need to be as comfortable as possible while doing so. I know you want to chew but milkshakes and smoothies are a soothing substitute in the meantime. I find that tinned peaches with milk and skimmed milk powder make a shake that doesn't irritate the mouth.

Best wishes
