After having symptoms for only a short time, and no risk factors, I have just been diagnosed with locally advanced SCC of the tongue base. Currently going through meeting the CCC care team, doing all the staging/planning etc and emotionally all over the place.
I have tremendous family/friend/neighbour/workplace support, and realize how fortunate I am in that. Treatment will begin within a couple of weeks, and I am apprehensive about it but everybody has been very honest with me and I am sure that I'll get through, but already have a lot of "detail" questions for that forum.
Will be back often.....

Surgery on 2/3/15. 10 months later and all is still well and I am living my regular life. Residual tongue irritation and some numbness, a bit of a lopsided smile..but hey I have a lot to smile about! May the New Year bring you health and happiness.
I am a 65 year old reitired woman. I have been married to a great man for 42 years. I had a right breast masectomy 15 years ago.
squamous cell carcinoma under my tongue was diagnosed earlier this month. I had surgery 2/3/15. 22 lymph nodes out of my neck came back negative for metasis. The Drs. say I do not need chemo or radiation. I'm off the feeding tube and now on a liquid/soft food diet. I see the surgeon again next week. I am grateful and optimistic.

I want to chime in with my support and encouragement with the others! I am sorry you are having to deal with all this. Cancer sucks. No way around that one but I will tell you that the surgery I had was not nearly as bad as I anticipated. It is different than yours but nonetheless I think many times what we imagine is harder than it turns out. I am glad you have a good support system. That will make it smoother for sure!! Good luck and keep us posted!! Denise

Sounds like you've done your part by getting in to see the doctors, and now they have a plan of action already set up. All you can do now is wait for the professionals to fix you all up, so about the only bit of advice I can offer at this stage is to try not to spend too much time worrying. Tough to do, but excess worry does nothing to benefit you.
