Hi first post!! diagnosed 7/22/15. 3/4 hard palate removed. obutrator in place. eating is hard and messy ( comes out my nose yikes) Very angry, very sad and everything in between. refried beans and pureed peaches make me happy. Sherbet is helpful when I am VERY upset with my prosthetic. life has changed again. I am so glad to hear that I am not just a whinner, suck it up,and "you have the good cancer" and so on. I think my situation makes others very uncomfortable and they want it to just go away. Well that ain't happening. So glad to be alive and to share me.

I just LOVE your attitude, Miss Pam ! And I'm so glad you found this great place to be. It is frustrating when well-meaning friends just don't get it. They really are uncomfortable because they don't understand and don't know what to say. . . and then end up saying the wrong thing. But they do worry about you and want you to be OK. My son told me early on what he didn't like to hear and so I warned everyone. Just hang in there. Lots of people here can help you with their own experiences and knowledge, so keep coming back. And Miss Pam - I am so glad that refried beans and pureed peaches make you happy! Just keep finding things that make you happy and DO them!

Welcome Miss Pam, your definitely not a whinner , your one of our family . We know how you feel . Life certainly does change , everyday things are more difficult for us and it gets you down. I'm still learning to adapt to things but you do and life is good again. X

From one messy eater to another, I didn't think of refried beans.

Glad you have found us. You will always have a place to share problems, get advice and talk to people who understand.

Best wishes.

Hi Pam! Glad you are doing well. I also love retried beans and I always put some of the queso on them! I make a bit of a mess if I put too much in my mouth at once. I am just so glad I can still eat regular food. What a blessing that is! I am an RN also and live right next door in Kentucky!!

Welcome, Miss Pam!

You are never alone in OCF and in these forums. We are an elite club that no one ever wanted to join, but here we are...strangers who have become great friends and the family we always wanted!

There are certainly some people on this forum that have done lots of experimenting with different food textures. ChristineB has a list of "easy to eat foods". I would suggest a crock pot and perhaps the Vitamix blender (OCF has a partnership with them). Here is the link
http://oralcancerfoundation.org/vitamix/
...or just go to the main page and you'll see the link.

I hope this helps!

Love in OCF,
Kerri

Make sure and think of any questions you might have for him and it does help if you can have someone go with you to help you remember what he/she said. If someone goes with you they can help remind you of stuff. When my son was in cancer Tx, my daughter, my nurse friend and I all went with my son and later it helped when we checked with each other to "interpret" or remember something positive the doctor had said. Is your appointment coming up soon? If it's a long way off, sometimes they can move it up so that you have less time to worry about it.
