A really small white patch was discovered on my tongue during my scheduled dental cleaning. Had it excisional Biopsied and it came back a mild to moderate dysplasia. The biopsy was done 4 weeks back. It was healing ok. But the part where there is the cone formation of it seems to not be healing well. the patch sometime turns red ,purplish. Also some of the white part is coming back. How much time does a Oral Biopsy take to heal completely?I have never smoked or drank.35 yrs old. Will appreciate any help

Welcome to OCF! First, I want to make sure you know this site is made up of patients and caregivers. We dont have medical backgrounds so when we give advice its from personal experiences and things we have learned from other members.

For your situation, I would advise you to go back to get it checked. After 4 weeks it should be mostly healed. But, healing happens from the inside out so what you see on the outside may not be a true representation of what is really happening with the wound inside. Best to get it seen by your medical professional. I always tell members to get checked to rule out any serious problems. If it bothers you enough to research, find this site, join and post your concerns then you should get checked. Always better to be safe and seek help before it becomes more serious.

Healing as well as responding to medical treatments can greatly vary. Some patients will bounce right back in a short time frame while others have more delayed reactions to things. With dysplasia, it frequently comes back so dont be surprised if it regrows.

Best wishes with your continued recovery.

Thanks for your response. I had scheduled a appointment and then just a day before the redness went away and it seemed to be getting better. So I cancelled it.But yesterday the redness came back. I will get it checked. I worry if this is a sign that it is turning Malignant?

By the naked eye you would not be able to tell if the sore was malignant or not. Only thru a biopsy can anyone be certain exactly what they are dealing with. Hang in there!

Saw the Oral surgeon today. He said it is a Ranula. He said it may go on it's own, or may have to be removed.

Keep an eye on it until it's completely gone. If it doesn't go make sure you follow up. Hugs.
