I was given my treatment options as brachytherapy or radical surgery . I chose brachytherapy as it was quicker (5 days) and less risky (surgery carried high risks of loosing mobility in my lip as well as bad cosmetic results) Anyway I was admitted to hospital at the start of this week to begin the brachytherapy treatment. On Monday 25th January the catheters were put in under a local anesthetic, I have 2 of them in my lip and treatment started straight after. I have 2 treatments a day, 6 hrs apart for 5 days. Each treatment takes 3 mins but I'm there for an hour with the preparation, simulation etc. So far except for a fat lip the experience hasn't been to bad, and no other side effects although I will continue to update further along the line as the radiotherapy Dr says that any side effects can appear 2 -6 months after, but that side effects are limited with bracytherapy. Today is my last day of treatment this afternoon the catheters come out! (Hurrah) Hope this helps anyone looking for personal experiences on brachytherapy.

This info will be helpful to others going thru it.
Wishing you all the very best with this. Hopefully your side effects will be minor. Friday 31/02/2015 they took out the "whiskers" (the 2 catheters placed in my lip for the radiation) wasn't the nicest experience, but I expected worse! I was released from hospital the day after (Saturday) and Sunday I went to work. Just have a slightly swollen lip..... we'll see what happens over the next few weeks.
