My mom passed away on December 15th. It's very sad that on Sep 15th we were informed that she had 3-24 months. She became really weak early November and died at exactly three months. I thought we would have at last a year with her. Her one round of chemo only made things worse.

She was initially diagnosed in August 2008 and had a successful Mandibulectomy in September 2008. She went on to live a normal life for 6 years and I was so thankful for this.

In March of this year she had recurrence. Our doctor indicated he had never seen a case like this where after five plus years he was looking at my mom as a brand new stage IV patient.

She was 54.

CG to mother. Diagnosed with SCC August 08. Surgery Sep 08 to remove right mandible and replace it with fibula from left leg. Also neck dissection with one pos. node. Rad/Chemo with cisplatin completed Nov 30, 2008.

Nick,

I'm so sorry about your mother. I lost my mother in 2012 and know how hard it is especially around the holidays. Cherish the memories. Hugs and prayers to you and your family.

Thanks everyone!

It is very difficult. My parents migrated from India when I was only 8 months old. They didn't have much when they came here. My mom worked 80 hours a week so that our family could make it. She sacrificed everything for my sisters and I.

CG to mother. Diagnosed with SCC August 08. Surgery Sep 08 to remove right mandible and replace it with fibula from left leg. Also neck dissection with one pos. node. Rad/Chemo with cisplatin completed Nov 30, 2008.

Keleigh - thanks! I am familiar with the mandiblectomy as mom had that in 2008 and my dad previously had double bypass. Those are major operations and I wish you and your family the best in the New Year!
