Anyone had any experience with Ear Tube Placement ?
My husband is having problems with the left ear(a golf ball in the ear as he prefers) This has been going on Several months so much pressure and just plain numb feeling .. We saw a local Ent and he's finally going to place a tube after three months of him telling my husband this usually clears up on its on
My husband told him he could not wait no longer it's been a nightmare
The Ent said I'm sure it will clear up and go back to normal in six more months this could very well be true but I think he got it after my husband kept getting appointments to see him then he knew how bad he was so he's heading for a AM surgery to place the tube Monday I hope everything works out he's been trough so much this year .. My husband is not one to see a DR. Or make any appointment
So you kinda know its bad when ask for one or brings it up.. The Ent was sure this is fluid after months of antibiotic and steroids he's ready for some relief And So am I

Just wondering if this was from the chemo even tho he just took two treatments of cisplation anyone else has/had this issue with the ear by the way he can't hear at all out of the ear I Pray no Damage has been done to the drum

Cisplatin is known to cause permanent hearing problems. Some will have low frequency hearing loss while others report ringing in their ears.

Ive had tubes put in my ears 3 times. Its a very simple procedure. Sometimes its even done right in the ENTs office.

The road to a complete recovery is full of ups and downs. It takes the body 2 years to fully recover. Im sure your husband has come a very long way since he finished treatments in July. He still has lots of healing to do before everything is how it will permanently be.

Best wishes with the tubes! Hope it solves the problem.

I had tinnitis 20 years before cancer, but worsened with treatment, and notice it more with antibiotics, during HBOT. My hearing has also diminished the past several years, and had a number of chemo's, radiation treatments, but been too busy to have my ears them checked by an audiotologist...number 99 on a list of 100.

I haven't had any experience with ear tube placement, but I did have some eustacian tube dysfunction which the audiologist diagnosed with a pressure test. It repaired itself over several months and returned to normal operation.

The tinnitus from the Cisplatin is singing a treat. Its worsened by stress and a number of other factors, and its much more noticeable when someone mentions it. Thanks PaulB! smile

Thats great to hear! Ive had very good luck with the ear tubes. Each time they have lasted well over a year. I think the longest was about 2 years. Make sure he wears ear plugs when taking a shower. You can pick them up at any pharmacy for a very low price.

Happy Holidays smile
