I realize that there is no 100% diagnosed cause, but is our environment or exposure to toxin playing more of a part to oral cancer than we think? | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 236 Gold Member (200+ posts) | Gold Member (200+ posts) Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 236 | Ken
I have not done any research on possible environmental causes but I do think about it all the time. My family and I always have conversations about it also Heidi

I don't believe it is mathematically possible to even compute.
We all go through the stage of trying to figure out the cause of our cancer. Some dwell on that the rest of their lives. There is no value in knowing what started it. There's nothing you can change in the past.

The most likely factors are tobacco and/or alcohol consumption or HPV. Besides these obvious causes Ive seen approximately 6-10% who have no known cause. Thats not to say some of that figure who have been smokers or drank a few glasses of wine almost nightly at some point in their lives. There are so many reasons why someone gets cancer, predisposition and even heredity can play a role (unproven scientifically for OC). As far as anyone coming thru here with environmental cause, I cant think of a single one but I guess anything is possible. Im sure if someone doesnt know what caused their illness it must be difficult and something they would think about quite alot. I agree with Paul, the past is the past and there isnt anything that can change what has already been done. Regardless of cause its all treated the same right now, in the future that may change.
