Thank you very much for the advice.

I wish it is not cancer. I want it to be biopsied but i am afraid. I afraid of the expenses, the physical and emotional pain, and also afraid for my family. I dont want my younger brother and sister to stop studying especially now that they are studying in a private school.

Also, i have shown this lesion to the dentist and she said that it was not a canker sore. I have searched that there is what they call brush biopsy, is that really accurate?

Its best to get a regular incisional biopsy. Often a brush biopsy will be inconclusive and the patient will still require the regular type anyway. Why waste time and more money by having to go thru it twice.

There is no price on a persons life. Try your best not to worry about things out of your control. Im sure your siblings would want you to take care of this situation. Its nice you are concerned about them but you must take care of your own health.

Bite the bullet and get a biopsy. Then get whatever it is taken care of right away. If it would turn out to be oral cancer, this can be a fast moving disease. By delaying it only gives it time to grow. Please help yourself by speaking up and advocating to get the biopsy.

Hi Ren,

Your situation is complicated for certain and the opinions are very different if you are looking out from that culture or looking in.

Your mother is a doctor and she agreed something was not normal and listened to your concern and had you visit one, maybe more, ENT specialists who determined it was something other than cancer.

The only way to be sure is by taking a biopsy that is a standard and proven save procedure. This procedure is not expensive even in the Philippines so please stress that at least to get this test. Your mother can be convinced this is a harmless procedure and it will make you much less stress and worried.

If nothing is possible anymore with your family, then just make sure your family really sees the condition and if it changes over time then be very firm to get them to agree is is not going away and getting worse or changing. Hopefully that helps get you that biopsy.

You can not worry about "what if" as this is just a big wall you put in front of you before knowing. I know there are major issues with medical care in the Philippines and most do not understand how such a large country can have such a broken down system.

Get the test and it will likely be something else. If it is cancer, you and your family can decide what to do then. Just don't think that now. I know you love your family and want them to stay in school but you do have to know they love you dearly and would delay school to get you treatment if that is what it comes to. Keep trying, Don

Thank you very much for the advice. I teared up a little hehe

Is the biopsy painful? Will the doctors put you to sleep? My father was biopsied two years ago for prostate cancer, and he was put into sleep. Fortunately, the results was just BPH.

In my situation, the lymph nodes came out first. Will they get the biopsy sample on the lymph node or on the sore?

Biopsy on a lymph node is often done via a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA). It is simple as the doctor takes a needle and pokes into the neck node and extracts a bit of the material. It is fast and hardly hurts and you are awake and done in a few minutes.

I did have a biopsy where I was put under sleep but that was because they went through my mouth to extract sample far inside my throat.

In your case it seems the biopsy should be pretty straightforward.

Good luck

Also, with an FNAB, I had all mine, about 10, under ultrasound guidance done by a pathologist, not an ENT, who looks at the sample right then and there. Sometimes they may tell you the results, but is always sent out for in-house for further pathology and confirmation. All mine were 100% correct, either good or bad. Mainly bad frown but at least there was no monkeying around fishing or need for a surgical biopsy.

Good luck
