I have always had large tonsils and am prone to getting tonsil stones, so I am not sure if this is anything to worry about. But, since asymmetrical tonsils are a symptom of tonsil cancer and I have been diagnosed with HPV (minor genital warts outside of vagina, no pap smear) I'd like to know if you think it should be investigated further. I am also a Type I Diabetic and have been for 10 years. Please let me know if you have any advice | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 6 Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 6 | Cam, welcome to OCF. Please understand this group is made up of caregivers and OC patients, not medical professionals. That said, its not possible to diagnose you over the internet with only symptoms of asymmetrical tonsils.
Unfortunately many OC patients experience no symptoms at all which is why its so important to have yearly oral cancer screenings. If your dentist doesnt automatically provide this service, and isnt able to do a complete OC screening for you then its time for a new dentist. If you want to check further, seek out an ENT who treats OC patients.

Firstly it tends to take a long time to manifest into oc (most of our members who've had this type of OC are late 30s +) - secondly - it's only two or three strains of HPV - 16 being the primary culprit - out of MANY that actually cause OC. 80 percent of the earth's population has HPV but only a few actually end up with HPV related OC. That said - if you are concerned go to an ENT have it checked out. and do keep a close yet on things later in life if you have had HPV 16. The younger people on this forum 14-30) who have had battles with OC - have had NON HPV related and I think I can honestly say none of them have had it in their tonsils - HPV related cancer is usually found in tonsils, and base of tongue (throat area) where as non HPV is usually - gum, cheek, tongue. Though nothing with cancer is 100 %. Hugs and best of luck and try not to worry.
