Yesterday he met with his Oncologist and he said that everytbing looked great. Today when he went for radiation (the younger radiation doctor noticed inflammation in his neck) so he called our other doctor who is the chief Radioligist over and the doctor said "no don't worry this is just because of the radiation." I felt my brothers neck and do feel that one side is swollen. Should we be worried? Has anyone had experience with this?

I would say it's from the radiation also, maybe the inflammatory process from radiation injury, and also experienced some swelling from radiation, amongst other side effects, but regardless what we suspect, always tell the doctor about anything new or unusual like was done, and go by what they say.
Good luck.

Some patients will struggle from day 1 of rads while a lucky few barely hit any speed bumps at all. Most of us began to feel the effects around week 4 or 4 with everything getting progressively more difficult as the days went by. Best thing you can do is to focus him on his intake of hitting at least 2500+++ calories and 48-64+ oz water daily. Thats what will make or break this. It's very normal, but as everyone else here has said - do make sure your dr. is aware of everything. There are creams you can use to help with his redness, someone will likely suggest a few good ones (aquaphor etc...) I used one only available in Canada so I won't recommend it - but remember it goes on AFTER treatment. NOT BEFORE.
hugs...

For what its worth, my husband uses Aloe Vera gel, which they sell in a tube at the cancer center pharmacy. Its over the counter, the same stuff you'd buy at Walgreens to put on a sunburn. He does not have a severe burn, just some redness so far. He says it feels good.

Then when the area is dry, put some Lubriderm on it. Do this religiously and he may not suffer too much from radiation burns. Our RO said that the skin will break down especially when the folds are but the saline soak helps the body heal.
