Yes, 4 times I had salvage surgery, but mine were different surgeries, area, than your mothers, and were for cervical recurrences. It's just called "salvage surgery" if done after definitive treatment whereby surgery was saved for a later time, if recurred, and sometimes called, "surgery as a last resort", but sometimes it's not the last resort, and curative treatment, further surgeries can be done, depending on many factors.
