Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | I have been doing a lot of international travel this summer and have tons of flying time to read anything left behind and yesterday I read an article in some tec mag about this cancer doc that is testing (finally in clinical trials) his Tumor Paint. He found that a molecule in scorpion venom will attach to only cancer cells (and not normal cells)and he then attached a light emitting substance, i.e. the "paint" to it and during surgery they shine a special light to the area and the cancer cells glow to show the docs where to cut. His experiments with rats showed this paint worked on as few as a group of just 200 cancer cells. Google Tumor Paint if your interested. I'm sure some of you already know about this.

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 104 | Looks like they are doing trials in Australia for SSC. Seems only skin cancer right now, but damn at least its the right variant of cancer to help most of us.

Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 1,024 | I think some are using it to show where the cancer cells are when removing widespread ovarian cancer . Haven't read any more of this in the last year,
Would be fabulous if it can be applied to all surgeries.

R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,260 Likes: 3 | What was the drs name? My dr. Used this technique on me, and apparently he was the pioneer of this type of surgery. He could see the cancer in real time as he was cutting and remove it. It's something they do in the OR.
