Hello
I am a 17 year survivor of adenoid cystic carcinoma of parotid. I had surgery followed by 40 fractions of radiotherapy. 11 years ago I had 2 teeth extracted with the 20/10 HBO. Due to major occlusion problems I had composite bonding in 2010 and fixed upper and lower orthodontics in 2012. Braces removed in 2013 but fitted with fixed retainers. Retainers removed early 2014. Chronic pain, malocclusion and periodontal problems for past few years. I have done everything possible to save my teeth but they are all failing now. Apologies for venting

Maybe it is too late for help. At least I have tried.

Utmost sympathy. Can't offer any advice but I know how it feels to have teeth problems and lose teeth. Hope people here have some information for you.

Best wishes
Maureen

Am I reading that right? You registered in 2002 and have only done these two posts? That should earn you a reward as the ultimate lurker!

Condolences about the teeth, I guess there comes a point where they are no longer savable. When I told my dentist he had to remove 3 he was very upset, like a vet putting down a healthy dog.

I hope you end up with a solution you're happy with.

Cheers, Dave (OzMojo)

Hi, you certainly have my sympathy. I think dental problems post radiation are completely underestimated. We as patients were certainly never told of the possibility.
Kris has had ongoing problems with his teeth. All have been root Canalled in the last 12 months. They are still breaking.
Last month he developed an ulcer on his tongue flap, caused by a top tooth pressing on it. Seems his lower jaw has shifted forward since the radiation . They are now making him a partial plate to push the jaw back into alignment.
Honestly, I too think, What next?

Thanks for the sympathy and welcome.
Has anyone else had braces after radiotherapy?
