I have 2 growths in my mouth and red lesions on my tongue in the back of my mouth. I also have HPV (I don't know which one) and a rare tumor on my adrenal gland. Could I have oral cancer?

If you have a sore (or growth) in your mouth for anything more than 2 or 3 weeks and it doesnt heal on its own then you should find an ENT who specializes in oral cancer and get checked out. As far as HPV goes, was the tumor on your adrenal gland tested for HPV or was it found thru some other way?

Oral cancer is not in the vicinity of an adrenal gland so I wouldnt think the two things are related. But, I dont have a medical background. This forum is made up of patients and caregivers not medical professionals. Thats not to say we dont know our medical things but we do not have the years of training and medical degrees to be able to answer all questions. Even with a medical degree the doctor cant visually tell if something is cancerous, only thru a biopsy is that determined. You could have any number of things going on, not all are serious health problems. Get checked by a qualified ENT. They should do a biopsy to determine what the growths are.

Hope its nothing serious! Best wishes!

Thank you for your reply. The tumor is a rare tumor called a pheochromocytoma. It is not related to HPV and I wont know if it is benign or malignant until surgery. I have an appt to check out the growths in my mouth on July 10. The waiting is agony. I am so worried esp since I have HPV. I gues Im just freaking out a little.

Being HPV related would be a much better prognosis than if it is not. Prognosis for non-HPV SCCs is generally poorer. But as we say the cancer that matters is the cancer you have.

Worry is a misuse of imagination! Its not a flipant turn of phrase, a positive outlook is extremely beneficial for a shorter recovery time.

Fear is a perfectly normal reaction but it is not helpful and it is contagious. If you have to endure a long wait for news it may be beneficial to talk to a counsellor specialising in cancer cases. Your doctor should be able to recommend someone. I used one in the waiting period prior to treatment, it was valuable.

Keep your chin up, and hope as we do for a positive outcome for you.

Thank u all for your replies. It looks like I may get in to see a doctor a little sooner. Trying to relax.
