Has anyone ever had a recurrence ON the tongue flap? I have a weird place ON my tongue flap that I CAN FEEL pain in?! The mere fact that I can FEEL it boggles my mind.....Then there is the fact that is is looking weird. I may be biting it during the night.....but just wondering. I'm about 8 months out of surgery with a check-up coming up....but was just curious if anyone else has experienced sensation in the flap....then an irregularity on the flap. Thanks.

Hi ChemTeacher,

Anything is possible. My pec flap is in the cervical neck is not a problem, but I had cancer come back at the surgery lines from prior neck dissections. I read, for some reason, if cancer comes back, it often comes back at the surgical lines, probably microscopic cancer, maybe seeding, I would think, and it also comes back just outside the surgical field, margins, maybe field of cancerzation, synchronous or microscopic cancer. Recurrence average is about 8 months, not that it is, but the best thing is to have it checked as soon as you can as a precaution, and hopefully is nothing. Like before, if anything unusual doesn't go away in two weeks, have it checked.

Good luck.

To give you a direct answer, unfortunately I have seen 2 cases of this happening to OC patients. This is VERY rare.

Just remember... its NOT cancer until a biopsy says it is. If you are concerned, go get checked and have some peace of mind.

Good luck!!!

It's great that you are having monthly monitoring.
As for the flap, I was told, no, it wouldn't recur there. However, my recent cancer, although quite small, managed to extend a wee bit onto the flap under my tongue. I felt nothing on the flap but there was soreness in the base lesion.
My original flap (still have most of it) changed all the time over the four years . It grew more and more like mucous membrane tissue ... almost sounds as if there's a nerve in yours.
Best wishes for your check up:)

I have sensation in my flap. It started off almost feeling like a bee sting if it bit it.. Now I can feel it more intensely - it's not 100 % by any means but I do feel it. Also it probably won't ever look entirely normal, and nerve regeneration can feel achy or painful - I would have it checked out - hopefully it's nothing, hugs.

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom. I have an appointment on the 15. Hopefully, it will clear up by then......hopefully, I'm just biting it at night. I'm definitely glad to have feeling in the flap. I was shocked by that but did some internet research and it happens! So cool. As for the "place" on the flap, I will just be patient and watch and wait another week for my appiontment.
