Joyce has been in the hospital since last Tuesday. She had stomach infection due to the peg. HOWEVER, we found out today that it is also due to the lesion she has on her face. It never healed. She has sepsis now. The infection is now on her blood stream. We need prayers from all of you.

Sorry to hear... Usually cancer doesn't heal so it's not surprising, however wounds can be kept clean - though the longer they remain open the better the chance of infection. Sadly sepsis is deadly. My mom died of it within a week. It's a blood infection that is resistant to treatment. I do hope the best for her.

I'm sorry to hear. They usually take out the peg and port in sepsis cases, if that is the suspected source or as a precaution, but not sure in this situation. I had sepsis, septic shock, invasive candiasis, many others, back in 2009/10, which took many months to recover. Prayers for Joyce.

Ina,

I'm very sorry to hear this. Joyce has been through so much and I'm sure the love of you and the rest of her family has helped her fight this battle. I will definitely keep her in my prayers.

Yesterday evening my sister-in-law was able to talk to the oncologist of Joyce.

* Joyce is critical but stable condition.
* Joyce is receiving IV Infused Antibiotics and is monitored by an infectious disease specialist.
* Joyce is not in the USA.
* Doctors believe that the infection could have started from the lesion on her face. This lesion or ulcer did not heal despite 35 sessions of radiation.
* Joyce has stomach infection.
* WBC upon arrival in the hospital was 30,000. As of yesterday 22,000.
* Per Doctor, they believe she can survive this infection. Her will to live is so strong. However, we were advised to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
* My sister-in-law is going home next week to be with them.
* I am not sure if doctor's could predict the life expectancy of a patient but she was given a year. (If she survies the sepsis).

I will pray for all of you and please include Joyce in your prayers.

Tomorrow she will be in the hospital for 2 weeks. She had blood transfusion due to the sepsis. They said they have the infection under control and she may be released soon. The doctor said they have done everything for her in the hospital and she only needs 24/7 monitoring. She could either move to a nursing facility or home with a nurse visiting her. At this point, I don't know what they will do.
