Just a general grip. Ever since treatment pepper lights my mouth up like you would not believe. Yes, plain old out of the shaker pepper, I am sitting here with my mouth on fire right now because I ate some leftovers. You never realize how much pepper is used until you have a reaction to it like this. People pepper EVERYTHING. Even my recent trip to eat seafood, had some coconut shrimp, shrimp scampi, and shrimp linguini. My mouth was burning so they must have added pepper, the hottest thing to me was the coconut shrimp. It is liveable and very doable but I do hope some day my reaction to it lightens. As I said people pepper everything, they don't even think about it, read a recipe, I bet there is a tsp to a tbs in it.
Keeping the water handy.

Same here, but has gotten much better, bad again, then better...the same with salt, vinegar, ketchup, mustard, pickles...I just work around It, and my taste at the moment. Sometimes milk, sour cream help, even cooking with them, and coconut milk too, mellows the spices down. Good luck.

For me it is salt that sets off my mouth. But things are improving steadily and it becomes easier to eat things with some spice and more acidity such as tomato based pasta sauce, etc.

Ha! smile Ohhh, I know that feeling well! I LOVE Thai food and the spicier the better. I can't do ANYTHING spicy since treatment. Marcia and I went there to celebrate my NED and her getting a job and I had one of my favorites, fried tilapia with veggies. They have three different sauces. the hot hot was out so I tried the black bean and ginger sauce. Not supposed to be spicy BUT...~whew~... the ginger got to me and then... I bit into a slice of hot pepper that brought tears to my eyes! ~lol~

Oh well... the pain subsided in about 15 minutes and I was eating the leftovers later that night.

Like most things with this Tx time will make a huge positive difference.

I to am stubborn fishman. I eat and set my mouth on fire and hours later I am doing it again with leftovers. Last night was sushi and I can't eat sushi without a touch of wasabi! WHEW, I have leftovers and guess what I am about to do again, lol.
Its funny, sometimes my brain just won't compute that I can't eat spice like I did at one time. I made barbecue shrimp the other night (lots of pepper and creole seasoning and it has nothing to do with barbecue), and when I tried Mexican food again recently the first thing I did is grab the hot-sauce and start adding. Both times my Mom was with me and had to remind me to stop. Neeedless to say my guest enjoyed the barbecue shrimp but I didn't, and I have a container full of Mexican left overs in the fridge that will be going in the trash today (maybe) LOL.
I am starting to see I have went nuts with food since the ability to eat it has returned. I think I have eaten out more times in the last two last week than I did in 6 months before treatment. Its been a marathon of eating out at different restaurants. Its been a fun but its time to slow down and get back to to some healthier choices.
