I am day 4 post radiation and chemo. I also had BOT primary and one 3.5 cm node removed successfully 2/13. I am OK for 2-3 protein shakes/day with some plain water sipping interspersed. Any suggestions for good tasting protein shakes which go down easy and have high caloric value? I am SHOCKED how terrible is the aftermath considering the physiological and psychological devastation from the actual treatment! PS: I am glad to be alive and pray I never repeat this horror story!

Here is a shake that may work for you.....

handful of spinach
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 banana
about a cup of vanilla almond milk
1 scoop whey protein powder
a few ice cubes

blend extra well so the ice is not chunky

as an extra boost you can add 1 tsp Spirulina (its a superfood available at health foods stores)

Thanks Jamie from the OCF office!

1 packet carnation breakfast essentials
1/2 - 1 scoop whey power with natural vanilla
2-3 slices canned peaches
benefiber
whole milk to your preferred consistency

As your mouth heals, applesauce also works well in shakes. Toddler cereals may added - they will be smooth. Cooked oatmeal (cook ahead and refrigerate) also works.

Good luck!

My suggestion is to start basic. Get hooked onto one or two basic whey protein powders. Get ones that already have the BCAA and vitamins and flavor mixed in.

This is a good strawberry flavored one Synth-6, strawberry milkskake www.bsnonline.net

100% whey gold standard double rich chocolate

Find a good base you like. Then you can add extra stuff if you want to make it taste different or better. Much better to get the base tasting right first, i think it much harder to try to "fix" the flavor by adding stuff later.

Don is exactly right about the base flavor - and there can be a big difference between what tastes good to the individual survivor. Initially, my husband found the fake fruit flavors, and chocolate - to be dreadful. Real fruit, and real vanilla were ok. Whichever you buy, purchase a small amount to start!

Also remember to retest flavors often. Chocolate is once again a taste treat for my husband!
My nutritionist told me that powdered milk is basically the same as whey protein powder and its much cheaper...Just wanted you to know....
Another clueless nutritionist. I swear you must be able to get a certificate thru the mail for this "profession". So many are just dummies. Powdered milk is nothing like whey protein concentrate. sorry.

The sad part is lots of ppl believe them. don
