I never had a doctor lie to me. Maybe play down the initial findings as a small lesion, interesting findings, until further testing was done, and sometimes they just don't know until the biopsy or complete pathology is done. Most times the white lesions are not cancerous caused by a number of things, or could be Leukoplakia, that may be precancerous stage, so your doctor is taking the right measures. The scope is called a laryngoscope or flex scope. Good luck with the biopsy.

My family doctor told me he thought I had cancer when he first saw my sore. To me it looked exactly like a canker sore. Many experienced doctors can have a very good hunch if something is cancer or if it isnt. But even the most experienced specialists can be wrong so a biopsy is really the only sure way to tell.

Hoping for good results. Think positive!

I wanted to give a preliminary update. I had my biopsy done this morning and aside from being sick from the anesthesia it went smoothly. The ENT told my husband that after a closer look he's pretty sure the lesion was caused by the mouth guard I wear at night to keep me from grinding my teeth. He said in very rare cases it could still be a cancerous spot so the biopsy is a good idea (plus they'll check it for HPV and monitor me if it comes back positive).

I am feeling cautiously relieved and will be sure to post back once I know for certain. I have learned one really important lesson from this, my husband and I both agree 100% that our boys (ages 4 and 7 now) will get the HPV vaccine when they are old enough. I hadn't really given it any thought for them before all this, but I now I want to protect not only them but also the women they will love in the future.

Thank you to everyone on this site for your kind words and encouragement and for reassuring me that I was proactive when I feared I was just being a worrier. I'll be keeping all of you and your journeys in my prayers!

Glad to hear things went rather smoothly. Good luck for the results of the biopsy!
