Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 493 | There is an old email and internet posting that purports to be a study from Johns Hopkins stating that chemo and radiation don't work and talks about alternative methods. This is totally a hoax. Johns Hopkins did not post this, nor did they endorse it. One of my online friends posted this yesterday, but apparently it has been going around since 2008. If any of you get this, make sure that you let the person who sends it to you know that it is a hoax.
Female, nonsmoker, 70, diag. 5/09 after tongue biopsy: stage IV. Left hemi-gloss. and left selec. neck disec. 30 lymph nodes removed May 20. Over 7 weeks daily rads. with three chemo. PEG removed 12/4/09 Am eating mostly soft foods. Back to work 11/09 Retired 4/1/11. 7 clear scans! Port out 9/11. 2/13. It's back: base of tongue, very invasive
surgery involving lifestyle changes. 2/14: Now speaking w/Passey-Muir valve. Considering a swallow study. Grateful to be alive.

What is truly amazing is that the hoax uses John instead of Johns as the first name of Johns Hopkins yet nobody who believes it, notices it John(sic)Hopkins hoax That thread has the Snopes link as well as snippets of the official Johns Hohpkins response. Myself, I liked emailing the snopes link, the response and a "I know you are trying to be helpful,so I thought you would want the truth." Can you believe in response they tried to defend this hoax -and tried to send me essiac tea, a real eye opener to me and I was glad to have the OCF forum to vent on. Charm

I received an email from what I thought was a friend of mine in Canada, pleading for help saying she was stuck in a foreign country. I hadn't noticed the change in email until after I replied, very worried about what the "problem" was. The next email asked me for a large amount of money to be sent to the email address. It was then I noticed the changed email. I deleted everything and changed my password. With so many emails going around, we don't always check each email address for accuracy. For anyone who gets these hoax messages, it might be a good idea to change your password. Thanks for being so vigilant, Charm. It's comforting to know we can always get the straight scoop here at OCF.

Several of the women in that group have or have had cancer and in fact, one of them has just had a recurrence, so I hated to see something like that circulate. I messaged her immediately, and she deleted the post at once.
