Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 2 | My father was recently diagnosed with throat cancer caused by HPV. I am looking for best hospital to have a successful outcome. Johns Hopkins looks to be the best. Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 756 Likes: 1 | Les, Treatment for HPV+ throat cancer is generally radiation plus chemo, which requires daily visits to the hospital for 30+ days. Towards the end of treatment the patient would benefit from being close to the treatment facility (at home or in a temporary residence w/ a caregiver). While Johns Hopkins is one of the best in the country, as David said seek out a NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center nearest you (I�ll look for that list). Getting a 2nd opinion is a good idea also. MD Anderson is also one of the best in the US. My cancer was on my tongue and I�ve had 4 surgeries (the last 2 at Hopkins) plus radiation (locally). I was able to drive myself to my daily RT sessions, but the hospital was about 3 miles from my home. If I had a long drive I would have looked into 1) staying near the hospital or 2) having someone drive me. Praying for the best outcome for your father!
