| Any pearls of wisdom on replacing gold crowns with ceramic pre-radiation? Center says it's optional and my husband is just anxious to start treatment after months of trying to get dx. Now that we have accurate dx, he wants to get it done versus waiting further while crowns replaced. Center says gold versus ceramic totally optional- but mouth sores more likely with gold crowns. Any experience on this forum?

Stay focused on getting rid of the cancer. Good luck.

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | This was 6 years ago but my dentist at that time removed my silver fillings with ceramic. I didn't have any gold ones but he said the reflection off the silver would cause problems with the radiation so I had him do it.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 1,406 | Interesting. I have various silver fillings - well I believe they call it amalgam so maybe we're speaking of something different - and no one said a thing about removing them prior to radiation, nor anything during or since.
