I heard from Callie and she wrote. . . "Don isn't doing well. He's in the final stages of life. They're giving him a couple of days." Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers. Callie is so young, with 2 small children to be going through this.


Husband diagnosed Oct '11 Cancer of the vocal cord Nov '11 removed right vocal cord. Neck Dissection, cancer in one node, .2, very small & contained) Jan '12 Radiation and Cisplatin, 6 doses. June '12 & Dec '12 clear Pet scan. April '13 Celebrating 1 year cancer free since treatment ended.

Oh Terri, I'm glad Callie contacted you. I too have been concerned for her and her family. This just sucks. I really hate this awful disease and what it does to some. I will continue to say prayers for them and keep them in my thoughts.

Caregiver/advocate to Husband Kris age 59@ diagnosis
DX Dec '10 SCC BOT T4aN2bM0 HPV+ve.Cisplatin x3 35 IMRT.
PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

I pray for comfort and peace for Don in his last days of this life, and I pray for strength and support for Callie and her family as they deal with this tragic loss.

Don passed away this morning, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.


Callie, 24, cg to husband, Don, 43, smoker 20+ years, quit smoking 12/11! 3/09- spot on tongue, biopsy-. 3/10 biopsy-. 10/14/11 biopsy+. Surgery to remove front half of tongue and 32 lymph nodes (contained in one node).. 12/09/11. 6 weeks rad tx 2/1/12-3/20/12. Trach removed 4/12. Still using peg.

I'm so very sorry, Callie, and sending prayers your way. Know that Don is at peace now and his suffering and pain are over. May God confort you during this most horrible time in your life.

Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. TX completed January 2008. PEG out mid- 2008. PET/CT 1/17/2011;2/3/12 NEGATIVE for cancer smile

Callie - I'm so, so sorry to hear of Don's passing. Sending prayers and hope that you and your family can find some measure of comfort in helping each other through this sad time and that soon, there will also be moments of peace for you in remembering how special Don was in your life.

CG to son, Paul (age 33, non-smoker) SCC Stage 2, Surgery 9/21/06, 1/6 tongue Rt.side removed, +48 lymph nodes neck. IMRTx28 completed 12/19/06. CT scan 7/8/10 Cancer-free! ("spot" on lung from scar tissue related to Pneumonia.)
