I'm going to be taking a physical therapy continuing education course on Advanced Oncology Rehabilitation. A big chunk of the course focuses on H & N cancer. That is where I should be...using my career to help others and understand exactly what they are experiencing.

You should be very good at it. I know (I guess we all do) how much it helps to spend time with survivors. My dentist is a h&n survivor an really helped me.

David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.

Yep I am to angry and thank you Kerri for letting me know that Ron isn't just sitting downstairs watching TV and not doing anything with his life because he is not alone in this being the way to escape the thought of Cancer. He sooo hates it to even hear the word or see it on TV, the other day he came to bed and I was watching 20/20 and it was about the girl who "pretended" to have cancer because her boyfried was breaking up with her and than she told him that she had cancer and got a whole free wedding out of it! Well he came to bed and heard the word "cancer" and got pissed off yelled at me and went back downstairs, he still brings it up to my kids bout "let's go watch something on TV about cancer" and I keep telling him she didn't have it it was a story how she used people...ugh this was just past last week. He has his CT scan tomorrow and ENT apt and I am going with him to find out what is going on exactly. He told me 6 mos to a year last Oncologist apt, it spread to his upper right lung and no more surgery but now he says he wants to see what this CT shows and see what ENT says...he's ready to give up and I don't know how to make him fight when you have all of you who want to fight and beat this and WIN...he says he's old, has done enough and lived enough. Oh boy.

David, that must have been a tragic irony for your dentist to get oral cancer. But, at the same time, it must have really helped you to be able to relate and see a person surviving.

Sue,
I don't even know what to say. I guess we all handle it in different ways. I hope that all looks good tomorrow and that you can get some good news. I'm sorry that you have had to bear the brunt of Ron's lash-outs. It can't be easy for anyone. I will be thinking of you both and please keep me posted.

xoxo to you all!
