He sent me straight to an oral surgeon after examination he did a biopsy, I am still waiting on the result, I got a call from the dr.'s office on Friday telling me that the results were not in and they would contact me in a few days. i have had trouble with throat and mouth for a couple of years, always swollen glands, hoarseness of voice comes and goes all the time. After examining the inside of my mouth once these lesion would'nt heal, I have white patches kind of web looking and feel like scars, inside both cheeks, some on my tongue and some on the lower inside lip. Every time I eat or some times even looking at food the glands in my necks hurt, feels like I have been eating lemons. I am sorry for the length of this post but I have no one to ask or talk to. I have sharp pains in my left ear and sometimes my eye. I have gone to the dr. in the past and alway antibiotics that dont really help. Does any have any experiences with these symtoms. and how long should it take for biopsy results??? | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 805 "Above & Beyond" Member (500+ posts) | "Above & Beyond" Member (500+ posts) Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 805 | Hi Jere', I had the symptoms with the pain in my neck under my ears and especially when eating sour things. I finally woke up one am and had substantial swelling under my ear so went to thr Dr. They said it was a clogged salivary duct and sent me to an oral surgeon. He dilated the duct and gave me antibiotics and it was fine for a couple of years. The the same symptoms happened but no swelling. I went back to the surgeon and he did the dilation again, this time using thicker wires or tubes or whatever he used. That did the trick. With me though, none of it led to OC. Just thought I'd share that I have had THOSE particular symptoms. Kathy

A biopsy should normally take about a week between when it is done and the doctor has the results. If it has been more than that, call the doctor and ask for them to look into why its taking so long. Waiting can be so hard! There are all kinds of things it could be besides cancer. Try to keep busy until you get the results. When you worry and are under substantial stress our minds can play tricks on our bodies making all the symptoms so much worse than they are. I hope you find out soon and that it is nothing serious. Here is a gallery to check out pictures of some of the things that could be going on inside your mouth. Click on each photo and then click diagnosis. I was surprised by some of the photos not being what I would have thought. OCF Image Gallery Good luck!!! Usually muliple areas and unilateral involvement plus all that symptomology indicates something else. Maybe an infection or allergy of some sort possibly lichen planus. Not to say that one of the areas might be a lesion, but there's a lot of involvement for it to be cancer. Mind you - swollen glands, ear aches and non healing lesions can be part of a cancer diagnosis. Thankfully you've had a biopsy done. it shouldn't be too long.. though waiting SUCKS.
good luck... I hope it's nothing.

There is a search both here on the forum and also on the main pages. The Oral Cancer Foundation is the most comprehensive source for all info relating to oral cancer and also any possible pre-cancers.
