Just read an article in my local paper about brides trying to lose weight before their weddings. One of the more extreme methods was to use a feeding tube temporarily so they would slim diwn to fit into their wedding dress. This article made me furious. It seemed tp make a mockery of those of us who had to use a tube for survival during and after our treatments. Why on earth a doctor would allow someone do do this simply for the sake of vanity is beyond me. Just wanted to vent!

Female, nonsmoker, 70, diag. 5/09 after tongue biopsy: stage IV. Left hemi-gloss. and left selec. neck disec. 30 lymph nodes removed May 20. Over 7 weeks daily rads. with three chemo. PEG removed 12/4/09 Am eating mostly soft foods. Back to work 11/09 Retired 4/1/11. 7 clear scans! Port out 9/11. 2/13. It's back: base of tongue, very invasive
surgery involving lifestyle changes. 2/14: Now speaking w/Passey-Muir valve. Considering a swallow study. Grateful to be alive.

Z, jeesh. But I have to say, nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to human vanity. Although I am rather amazed that a doctor would actually... wait, no I'm not. Maybe there's more to the story than your local paper let on. Hmm, no, probably not.

Jeesh.

Any dr. Who does this kind of procedure on a health person should have their licence removed, it neccessary and for lazy people with no self control, wanna lose weight dumbass ? Stop eating crap and start exercising.. This kind of stuff really ticks me off... It diminishes what people who have a life long dependency on tube feeds go through...

The feeding tubes are nasal tubes and they use slow drips of fat and protein to slim down! That's awesome! It seriously made me laugh at the poor suckers marrying these psychos! Dude, it doesn't matter what she looks like on the outside, she's all f'd up on the inside and YOU get to live with her!!! Better yet, she's gonna take half your sh!t in less than 5 years of complete torture!!

It's kind of like a gameshow...Tell him what he's won Bob!! "A Beautiful Marriage!"

lol - you are right on, Eric. Women who have to have a tube stuck down their nose or their mouths wired shut to keep from shoving food down their throats have other serious mental problems. They're the crazies who envy me because I can eat all the ice cream I want and not gain an ounce, and they have the gall to say that straight to me. They don't have a clue how lucky they are to be healthy and able to eat.

If the intended groom in the of the weight loss tube feeder program goes along with this, they deserve each other. Stupid is as stupid does.

You're having surgery today bloop? Good luck hon! True Anne Marie!!! But seriously so you lose weight - fit into a great dress for your wedding day, remove tube and everything else - pig out on honeymoon and continue until you can fit on the couch - not to say that marriage is all about looks - but he's gonna wanna be with you if he has to use a hoyer lift to get you out of bed? Well at least you looked good in your wedding pictures. smile

Bloop, I get comments like that, too. I was at a meeting and someone commented on how much they liked "the new me" after I had lost so much weight. If they only knew how much I would be grateful for a few wxtra pounds if I could only eat normally again. That's partly why the article made me so mad.

That article was syndicated to many local newspapers. Maybe it could become a new wedding anniversary tradition for these couples: she gets a tube every year to shed extra pounds and he buys sentimental jevity 1.5 instead of chocolates.
Some of these comments would work nicely in the Don't you just Hate it thread. I've been told "you are lucky not to have to worry about food again or getting fat". And I guess I am.

People seem to forget (since they have the luxury of eating) that food is social as well. For those that can't eat, it's very hard to go out to dinner with friends and not be able to participate.
