Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I know that I often times have false alarms, and I hope this one is too. My tongue is hurting and is beginning to hurt when I move it. I see the RO tomorrow for a 6 month check-up, so I will be asking him about it. It really hurts bad. I am worried about it.

December, 2011 - T1N0M0 SSC Oral Tongue sugery (Dec 07, 2011). Partial glossectomy, primary closure. Selective Neck dissection, all 57 nodes free. 29 at diagnosis, no risk factors at all. No smoking, drinking and HPV negative. Can you explain? I can't.

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,260 Likes: 3 | Hopefully you'll have the results ASAP! I'm still hoping its just radiation after effects as you've had a recent check up. Hugs - try not to freak - though I know I would be - we're human... Try to think positive - is the necrosis of the tongue? That would definitely cause pain as the tissue dies but so far out why is it happening now? And necrosis is different from atrophy atrophy is stiffness from lack of use (causing poor blood flow stiffening of muscles etc) - necrosis is a lack of circulation all together - dead tissue should definitely be removed. With regards to the rib... It would be an unusual spread - though we know it could spread anywhere - I'm still hoping its nothing but a bruise. Hugs again!!! And sending prayers your way!

Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I had necrosis a year ago, and they removed and then I had HBO for 6 weeks. If it is necrosis, they will remove it again and I will go through HBO yet again. Radiationg the gift that keeps on giving.

Bob age 57, non smoker,non drinker, ended treatment on 11 Nov 2007 and started back to work on 29 Nov 2007. Veterans Day 2012 the Battle was lowered, folded, Taps was played and the Flag buried as I am know a 5 year survivor. Semper-FI !!!

PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 875 | Wonderful news, Angelia. The BIG scare is gone. Yippeeee! Hope the ENT doctor can find out what your problem is that is causing you the pain, but at least you don't have that worry about if it's a recurrence. Let us know what the ENT says/does after your Monday visit.
