Hi there... the best thing for you to do to ease your mind is to go and see the doctor in Philly, He will give you a definitive answer. Just keep an eye out for any changes. Good luck~!

Thanks Cheryl,

That is what I am going to do. I will let you guys know. Thanks for responding to me.

This board is full of people with guts who are fighting, and have fought, hard. You are a very impressive group. Hopefully, the news I get will be good, but if not, it is nice to know this forum is here.

I am having a very hard time not obsessing about this visit on Tuesday.

I am trying to distract myself but the waiting is terrible.

I went to the oral surgeon today and he said he sees nothing to be concerned with and nothing to biopsy. He was my second (really third) opinion, and I think I need to just keep track of my oral health normally and hope I quit dipping in time.

Thanks for all of the responses and I wish you all the best (and that I don't need to be back here). I am so impressed with the people here.

Brian, that is excellent news!!!! If nothing else came from this scare, it helped you to get rid of the tobacco habit. Hope you never have to go thru another scare like this again. Make sure to always get an oral cancer screening at your dental check ups. If your dentist doesnt do it, ask for one.

Thanks a lot, Christine. I am actually going to go to my dentist every 6 months and an oral surgeon every 6 months spread out so I am seeing one every three. It may be overkill, but it is covered by insurance and the dipping makes me high risk enough that it makes sense.

A patient has to be their own advocate. Glad to hear you are being alert and making sure you get checked frequently. Wishing you many years of continued good health!!!

I think you are very wise to see the Dr. in Philly. If he is an oral cancer specialist then he will be able to give you good feedback. My Dr. in Charleston is like that. He and the senior pathologist have written articles on dysplasia and are very familiar with all the various ways mouth tissue can become altered.

My ENT here in Greenville will look at an area and say that it looks alright and just to keep an eye on it while my Dr. in Charleston can give me the percentage of likelihood that the specific area will become malignent. He's already found cancer when my doc here wasn't interested in biopsying. I'm scheduled for more surgery next week because the Charleston Doc thinks another area is questionable- one the ENT felt wasn't.

Go with your gut. I hope you are wrong and that you've just got a little recession happening. Congratulations on giving up tobacco!
