I'm as new to cancer as I am to this forum. Can't say I'm glad to be here, but I'm glad that you all are. Had a biopsy done last Wed and yesterday found that my sore throat was due to a mass on my left tonsil. Pathology read "Tonsil mass, Invasive poorly differentiated keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma".

I'm trying to get the scans scheduled to see if it's spread, and staged, hopefully within the next week. I'm sure I will be getting to know many of you. Again, thanks for being here!

Don

Don, welcome sorry you have to be here, but the people on this forum have been thru just about everything and this site is a fountain of info. First off, I live in Huntley, IL and was wondering where you are going for treatment ? I had my surgery done at Loyola Medical Ctr in Maywood at the Cardinal Bernadine Cancer Center. I had tongue cancer, fully contained with no lymph node involvement. I had 6 weeks of radiation treatment, but no chemo.

DX 12/6/10 of T3 SCC Tongue.
Surgery 1/3/11 was hemigloss & forearm free flap, midline mandibulectomy, Neck Disection-All nodes clear.
Ended rads 5/11/11. Taste buds back to about 80%. PEG removed 4/5/12, experimenting eating real food again. If I can do this, so can you !! Stay Strong.

Sorry Don you have to be here and unfortunately, I have to welcome you to the forums. I am hoping that it has not spread elsewhere.

If you have to push somebody to get scan, please do it. You are in need of urgent treatment.

Take care and may god be with you.

Eshwar is right - push push push - time is always important when dealing with cancer - I too am sorry you have to be here - but this is a great place for support and advice. You. Ight want to know your HPV status as that is one of the links to tonsil cancer! Hopefully it's contained to the tonsil. And do get treatment at a comprhensive cancer center even if it's inconvenient travel wise. They are pros and your life is more important. Take care and let us know how your scans go.

Welcome, Don. As you can see you are not alone with the caner on the tonsil. My 1st reaction was "Who ever heard of tonsil cancer"? My Mom's was "I knew I should have just gotten those cut out when you were young". Back in the 50's tonsillectomies were being done "just because". Hope to hear soon of your scan results.

David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.
