Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I called my RO's office today and confirmed that I had an appt. on monday at 4:00. They wanted to get me in earlier, but I am in training all day and would not get credit if I left early. Now why they wanted to get me in earlier, I have an enlarged lymph node on the right side of my neck, and it is visible to the eye. I know it is not cancer until they say it is, but the fear is still there. I have not ever had an enlarged lymph node to the point that you can see it poking out. I am scared about this one and apparently they are too.

3 rds of chemo(Carbo/Taxol)
Rt Mandibulectomy, rt fibular flap,& rt ND with trach, picc,& g-tube.
30 rds of rads with weekly cisplatin

Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | My RO said he thinks it is just lymphedema, yet again another stinking side effect of radiation. However, he did say that he wants me to watch it. I see my ENT in two weeks so that will give us time to know if it is anything to worry about. He did say my tongue looks better than he has seen in the past, but has a lot of scar tissue and will be painful. UGH. So we wait an see what this swelling in my neck does for the next two weeks. At this point I am not due to go back top him for three months and will also have a PET scan in three months. So I had good news yesterday.
By the way my son has been complaining of his lip hurting. I looked in his mouth with a flashlight and he has an ulcer looking thing in the crease of his top lip. it looks really nasty. I started freaking out. I will be watching that, and hoping it goes away in a week.

You must be doing ok if you dont have to go back for 3 months! I still have yet to go that long between my ENT visits. I was thrilled when I got to wait 2 months. Glad you got yourself checked out!

It's hard not to freak when something unexpected pops up! But you will be okay... Lymph nodes swell for a variety of reasons. Infection, colds, inflammation, and some of them are palpable. As for your son... Poor kid!! I know it's a mom's job to worry... But try not to... Kids are always getting their faces into things they shouldn't ... He should heal quickly...
