Tongue sores now -seeing ENT Friday. My question: I live in a rural area and my ENT does everything under the sun - should I find an out-of-area ENT who is more specialized in oral cancer?? | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 939 "Above & Beyond" Member (500+ posts) | "Above & Beyond" Member (500+ posts) Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 939 | Kate,
Your recurrances are concerning and the answer to your question about seeing someone who specializes in OC is a resounding YES!
If I were in your shoes, I would gather my records..most importantly the lab results from your surgeries and get myself to the Head & Neck Clinic at a Comprehensive Cancer Center. They see Oral Cancer many times a day versus an ENT who rarely sees it.
The recommended treatment (IF you do have SCC again) will most likely be formulated by a team of physicians who meet about your case. This way you have the best chance of knocking the cancer out for good.

Part of my dilema is that I was very unimpressed with the doc that I saw at Stanford's Head & Neck Cancer Dept. a few years ago for a consult after a Board Review. I am so gutless - will muster the guts to ask for a different doc at Stanford, to boot Thank you, again. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 440 Platinum Member (300+ posts) | Platinum Member (300+ posts) Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 440 | Definately get to a CCC! Stanford is pretty far down the list of the best in the US.
