Hi Benfry, What a great daughter you are, your Dad is blessed to have you doing so much for him already. I feel for you as it is easy to hear what a frantic state you are in. With good reason, as this diagnosis is never easy to hear. But be comforted honey, this is very do-able! It's not an easy treatment, be it surgery, or radiation & chemo..or all 3. We are living with the benefits of advanced medical treatment options. Your Dad will pull through this just fine. There will most likely be side effects when all is said & done. Us survivors all have some...but we got through it! Before you know it, your Dad too will be "cancer-free" Best of luck!

BOT T3N2M0 No surgery, 38radiation treatments,4 chemo rounds, peg removed 11/08, still have a port. Treatments ended 6/20/08. So far, so Good ! "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish He didn't trust me so much !"

Hi all,
Thank you so much for your support. I have no words to thank you. I feel so much better. In the beginning I was so shocked and worried because I did not know what was going on, the first doctor that saw him in Ecuador said they could not operate him there. We got my dad an appointment in Memorial Sloan-Kettering yesterday. They reviewed his slides and MRI so they found the tumor is localized and has not spread. He is in stage 2. His surgery is scheduled for 8/11/10. He will have a partial glossectomy and neck dissection. I am still worried and will always be alert but now I am calmed and have hope.
Thank you.

Congrats on the good doctors visit. Im sure you are so relieved!!!! To me it sounds like its great news, much better than what they told him in Ecuador. Im happy that its treatable. This is exactly why everyone here said to take him to a cancer center.

Has the doc talked about doing chemo and radiation? Or will your dad be treated with just surgery? Hope your dad eats all he can right up til his surgery.

Thanks for updating everyone. Hope you and your dad enjoy this beautiful day smile

Hi Christine!
Thank you!
It was great news. I feel better now! I am still very nervous. I will be until the day of the surgery. The doctor said my dad will be evaluated about a week after the surgery to see if he still needs radiation. He did mention he believes surgery will be enough. He is not suppossed to have any aspirin before the surgery. Now I am trying find out more info about his tests before surgery but he has a hold until we get his insurance.. I spent the weekend collecting information the insurance co might need. This week feels endless I have not been able to sleep, I guess it is normal, but we are taking it day by day. Can he really eat everything or should he avoid some foods? They gave him a list of things to avoid.

Thank you for everything <3 I hope you enjoy your day and we'll keep in touch smile

Benfry

Thanks for the update. Hope your dad gets to eat all his favorite foods. It will be a little while before eating is the same so its best to eat lots now. Of course, if the doc said to avoid something, listen to the doc. Best of luck smile

Two weeks really isn't that long but seems to be when you are involved. Good luck to your dad and welcome aboard. The postyers here have been thru most of the treatments and have great advice if you ask them.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Thank you everyone I really feel better every time I come to read your postings. My dad's surgery had to be rescheduled due to paperwork to 8/18/10. The surgery date was confirmed today I am praying it won't change. Last week was torture but we have a lot of hope now and I hope he gets to finish this part of treatment soon. I feel what you go through and I wish you all the best. I will continue to keep you updated. I'm counting the days... smirk :^) :?
