I am helping my brother through his latest fear and possible reality--- that his voice is gone for good.

Are there any suggestions on phone communications for people who can hear but cannot speak? He has Comcast for his phone service... he lives alone.

thank you my newly found friends!

speech to speech.

It is a federally funded non profit. They will come out and install a keyboard that can communicate with an operator.

I am a former Verizon telephone employee and we had a special department that had items for customers with disabilities. There were all kinds of things available at little or no cost to the customer.

Call his phone company and ask what is available.

Thank you Christine and Miss Kate! I am making progress with your suggestions which led to yet other options. Will go visit my brother this evening and discuss the options that are coming our way!! Including trying to convince him to get his own account with this awesome forum! From reading the threads of emails last night, I see he is SOOOO NOT ALONE. And why did I discover this LAST night at 10:30pm...not able to pull away till after midnight---dragging my tired self to work this morning. and oh so anxious to check "THE FORUM" on my lunch break!!

Glad to help:) I think getting your brother these devices will make him feel safer and more in control of his life. Its hard to feel so dependent on people for basic things we used to be able to do on the phone. Thank goodness for the Internet! I sitll haven't even taken advantage of speech to speech. I just avoid the phone unless absolutely necessary... Patient people and my family can understand me but calling a random person is a daunting task.

Best of luck to your brother smile
