Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 28 | In my case the lump was found from a MRI scan I had done on my pituiatary gland which showed the lump up on my tongue as well.
It's a long story but the doctors think i have cushings syndrome which causes benign tumours on different glands in your body. The scan showed one on my pituitary gland and also the lump on my tongue.
At least this hurdles over now and I can join a cushings syndrome forum!!LOL!!!!
Anyway hope everybody is ok and catch up soon,

Referred to ENT surgeon
Suspects Lingual Thyroid sent for 123 iodine scan - said dont need surgery or biopsy.
Follow up:Not a lingual thyroid, now have to have a tongue biopsy on Monday 15th March 2010.
Get the results Monday 30th March 2010

I think the support on here helped me....everyone replying to my posts if I had a worry or concern. I kept it from a lot of my family and If I could turn back the clock I would have told them.Not because of selfish reasons but because they are my family and I really did need the support from them as well.
I obviously told them when I got the good news but they were horrified that I had kept it all from them.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I agree that you should have told them, but that is hindsite now. Your family is always needed for just just about anything. This family is needed to for advice as you found out as I and others did. Good luck .
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Joined: May 2002 Posts: 2,152 | I disagree that it always a good idea to tell the family before you know what the diagnosis is. It depends on the health of the family members and what the impact on them will waiting for you to get the results have on their health and stress levels. I don't think I would advise keeping this from one's spouse or loved one, but I'm not certain it is necessary to tell one's parents or children until one has a better idea of what one is dealing with. While I do recommend confding in someone so you have someone to help handle the stress of waiting for the results, I would recommend choosing those people carefully.
